Her life was constantly rigorous and taxing. She was consumed by a tedious daily grind. Truly a member of the poorer class because she had to get her own water from the local well. Wealthy people had others to do that for them. Worst of all she was broken inside. Multiple failed relationships with its heartaches, bitterness, and distrust.
But what a monumental life-changing day at Jacob’s well. She meets the infallible refuge, the source of eternal refreshment and the One who would fulfill her lifelong hopes.
He said, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” John 4:10
We all have a past with its history of successes and failures. Once this woman discovered that Jesus not only knew her, but accepted her she became secure. Her healing and ours begins through the “ointment of devotion.” Embracing the one who is the Great Physician. The Messiah rejuvenates, revitalizes and revolutionizes our repetitious, mundane, dysfunctional existence. Its the dawning of a new day for this Samaritan. “The woman left her water jar beside the well and went back to the village and told everyone. Come and meet a man who told me everything I ever did. Can this be the Messiah? So the people came streaming from the village to see him.” John 4:28-30
